Selective Service System is an independent agent of the United States of America that stores all the information of individuals available to join the military force. According to the law, U.S citizens and immigrants are required to register with the selective service. Therefore, whenever there's a war in the country, the government require those people to serve the military.
All
male U.S citizens and immigrant non-citizen between the age of 18 and
25 must registered with the selective service within 30 days after
their 18th birthday or the day the enter the United
States.
To register online (a social security number is required):
- Go to the website: https://www.sss.gov/regver/wfregistration.aspx
- Fill in your name, address, date of birth and social security number
- Click Submit
- Within 90 days, Selective Service will send you a letter which includes all the information you need to know about selective service and you Selective Service identification card
If you don't have a social security number yet, or would like to register by mail :
- Download a registration form from the website above
- Fill in the form using Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader can be downloaded from the website: http://get.adobe.com/reader/(Note: Please fill in all your information using a computer before printing)
- Print this form and sign your name
- Put it in an envelope and send to the following address:

What
will happen if I don't register with the Selective Service?
- Failure to register with the selective service on time is considered a violation of the law of the United States, so you'll have to pay a fine
- If you're a male immigrant, you will not be able to obtain US citizenship until you register
- When you apply for a job, financial aid, register for school, you'll be asked if you have been registered with the selective service. If you don't, you will be required to register before they can continue your application.
