Fun fact: Coca-cola Cambodia is much sweeter than Coca here.
I grew up drinking Coca-cola and Pepsi, the Cambodian version. And after I moved to the US, I've found it's fascinating that Coke here are actually milder than what I consider to be usual.
Apparently, Coca cola and Pepsi in Cambodia are much sweeter.
The first time that I took a sip, I was like "coke here is really bland" (translation "កូកា ស្រុកនេះសាបៗ"). Although, now that I've been here for quite awhile, I already adapt to the mild taste of soft drink. By the time that I got back to Cambodia, I will definitely find Cambodian coca cola to be too sweet.
At first, I was going to share the pictures of nutrition fact of the drinks in US and drinks in Cambodia in order to compare the amount of sugar in each version. But, (as you can see) it turns out that Cambodian drinks don't provide much nutrition fact. By the way, big thanks to my friend Ana for the photos, and for paying for those drinks just to take photos for me, although she could just take the photos without buying those drinks. Just some suggestions. :-)
I'm pretty sure that most Cambodian never read the nutrition fact on anything that they eat or drink. That explains the fact that food companies in Cambodia don't bother telling their consumers how much sugar, fat, protein... is in the food. On the other American hand, some people here are either obese or sick or feel the need to watch their weight (no offense). They have to be careful with what they put into their body. That is still interesting because despite having more sugar in the soft drink, average Cambodian tend to be thinner.
So, that's just a fact about the taste of coke in America and in Cambodia, same brand, slightly different taste.
