Packing to America
Packing your stuffs to another country permanently is a huge different comparing to packing for a 3 days trip to Thailand or to the beach. For a short trip, you just pack some clothes, some snack, probably your laptop, or maybe a hairdryer, etc... In my case, this is more than moving to a new house, it's moving to a new house in another country.
Imagine you have your entire stuff in your room, everywhere, on the table, in the closet, on the floor. You have to put everything into 2 suitcases, "The possibility is endless". Clothes are definitely on the top of the to-bring-list. And then there are all the other stuffs : Books, school papersssss, my "collections" (I swear I don't have a particular collection, I collect everything), my childhood toy (a.k.a. stuff that I don't want to throw away) and of course my electronic stuffs like speaker, keyboard, external hard drive.... this doesn't sound like a lot, but in reality I would need a big truck to store everything. Or probably a gigantic box and ship it to me in America.
I had to divide everything into 4 categories:
Stuff I have to bring with me, stuff I have to keep in Cambodia, stuff that stays here but will later be brought to America and finally stuff for donation (sad face, I love my stuffs, I don't want to give my stuff away, but no choice). I have already given some of my stuffs to my friends. There are lots of old books from high school and from the previous year at university that I have to throw away. Not literally, let's just say someone who needs them can have it otherwise it will be recycled. The things is that I'm starting college all over again, what if I need all those documents back.
This may be out of topic. So back to packing what you are bringing. Clothes obviously. Although you might not need to bring much, cos you can buy clothes at a not-too-expensive/cheap price here in America. But if you still want to bring a bunch of clothes, go ahead.I just realized, why don't I make this post a tip on how to pack your entire closet to America. LOL..
Ok, first group jeans, shirts, T-shirts, socks.. into their group, then stuff everything and squeeze it as hard as you can and close the suitcase.... That's a bad suggestion o_O. Just check Youtube for "Packing tip" tutorial.
Based on where you are going, you should be prepared for the weather of the place that you are going to. Be prepared for the hottest and coldest time as well. Assuming, winter in New York , f-ing cold, Summer in Texas or Arizona, f-ing hot. If you are going to a really hot place (probably all year long), don't bother bringing the clothes people wear in Antarctica. Just a tip!!!
Different airlines have different allowance weight and number of free baggage. I think normally we are allowed to bring 2 baggage, 50 lbs/ 23.5kg each, without charging. You can have one additional carry on and one backpack. Take advantage of that, if baggage is 50lbs full already, there's still space for your towel or jeans in your backpack.
One extra tip from me, on your traveling day wear your thickest clothes and bring your jacket. This way you can put weight on yourself instead of in your bag. Besides, it can be cold in the plane anyway.
